Durham Region Transit (DRT) provides specialized transit [paratransit] through Handi-Transit service for people with disabilities in the cities of Pickering and Oshawa and the towns of Ajax and Whitby. (source)


Eligibility Requirements

DRT Specialized Services provides accessible door to accessible door transit service for temporarily or permanently disabled residents of Durham Region. Customers must meet the eligibility criteria and complete an application form to qualify for Specialized Services.

How far in advance should I book my ride?

You may reserve your trip up to seven days in advance. Next day trip reservations are accepted up to 10:00 PM seven days a week. Example: for Monday trips call before 10:00 PM on Sunday, for Saturday trips call before 10:00 PM on Friday.

Does my attendant have to pay?

DRT allows a Support Person to travel free of charge on DRT conventional buses and Specialized Services buses when travelling with a person with a disability who is eligible for a Support Person when using DRT services.
