This section is to provide information for those wanting to apply for the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) offers two kinds of money:
- grants/bursaries: money you don't have to pay back
- student loan you need to repay
Both the Ontario government and federal government provide this money. Through one OSAP application, you have access to a mix of different financial aid programs, depending on your circumstances. If you apply for OSAP, you are automatically considered for 30% Off Ontario Tuition, too. You don't need to apply separately. You can get OSAP to attend a public or private postsecondary school located anywhere in the world, as long as it's approved for OSAP. For more eligibility information please visit this site.
How much course load do I need to take?If you are someone that suffers from a permanent disability you are allowed to take as little as 40% of a course load but yet can still be considered a full-time student
Will OSAP affect my ODSP?As this document shows, if you receive funding from Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) it will not interfere with your ability to apply for an OSAP loan and/or bursaries/grants. However, the OSAP funding you will receive will be strictly meant to be used towards your education and none for living expenses.
How do I register as a person with a disability in my OSAP application? In order to register as a person with a disability on your OSAP application, you need to click on the disabilities button in the online application, and provide verification documentation with the application. For the 2014-2015 academic year the verification documentation form is provided here.
