Welcome! The Social Housing Division is responsible for the administration of the Social Housing portfolio for the City of Cornwall and the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry including these towns: Alexandria, Avonmore, Chesterville, Crysler, Finch, Ingleside, Iroquois, Lancaster, Moose Creek, Morrisburg, Williamsburg and Winchester. Social Housing refers to rental housing developed with the assistance of government and subsidized by government for people with low to moderate incomes, seniors, or people with special needs who can live, with supports, in the community. (source)

 

Eligibility Requirements

To apply you must:

Be at least 16 years old.

Have one member of the household be at least 65 years of age for a seniors unit, unless you qualify under the Cascading Age Policy.

Be able to live independently, with or without support services (which you must arrange).

A member of a household is eligible for rent geared-to-income (RGI) assistance if:

He/she is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or refugee claimant.

He/she does not owe money to any social housing provider.

He/she does not have a removal order which has become enforceable under the Immigration and Refugee Act.

Is there Special Needs Housing?

Housing providers that have modified units for handicap access or where support services are provided have a separate waiting list. Please contact the housing provider directly.

How long is the wait list?

The process for the Rent Supplement program is : two names are sent to the private landlord when the applicants reach the top of that private landlord’s wait list. The private landlord then chooses one name for the vacant unit. These units are subject to change at any time.
